How to identify contaminated food?

It is best to avoid eating any food that you suspect is contaminated. Contamination is more likely if the food is not fresh, raw ingredients have not been washed properly, food has not been cooked to a safe internal temperature, or food storage has been unhygienic. Things that can contaminate food and water include bacteria, viruses, parasitic fungi, toxins, and chemicals.

Precautions to avoid food poisoning:

1. Wash food before cooking it

This is the most important step in cooking. It is important to clean vegetables, rice or pulses with water to remove dust particles or bacteria.

2. Keep your hands clean

Cleanliness should never be compromised as it is directly related to our health. Our hands should be clean while cooking, serving or eating food.

3. Avoid eating outside food

Due to lack of hygiene and improper storage of food, we are at higher risk of getting stomach infections and food poisoning by eating street food or food bought from outside.

4. Always check the expiry date

Packaged foods have a limited shelf life, so it is important to check when they are about to expire. Eating food after the expiry date can lead to food poisoning.

Follow these preventive measures to reduce the risk of any foodborne illness.
