Jon Snow may not know anything, but Kit Harington does and he has confirmed that the Game of Thrones sequel, which focuses on his character, is no longer in development. Earlier, there was a buzz that the sequel was in development and then it was put on hold for a while. However, it is officially off HBO’s slate due to the lack of story.
Jon Snow sequel is no longer happening
Kit Harington spoke to Screen Rant while promoting his film Blood for Dust and confirmed that the spin-off series has “stopped”. He said that they hadn’t talked about it before because it was in the early development stages, and they didn’t want to spoil it or discuss it before it was official.
After looking at every angle and analyzing whether the story was worth it, the creators and Harington decided to drop the idea. He said, “Right now, the idea is on hold because we just couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about.”
However, the Enchanted actor didn’t completely disappoint fans; he ended his statement on a hopeful note. He said, “There may be a time in the future when we start it up again, but at the moment, it’s not like that. It’s completely on the shelf.” That might be enough to keep Jon Snow fans hoping!
List of other Game of Thrones prequels/sequels on HBO
Game of Thrones, based on The Song of Ice and Fire, is a massive world with scope for many stories. Thanks to the crazy world and complex story arcs created by George RR Martin, HBO has several prequels in development.
The first spin-off released after GOT’s finale was House of the Dragon – currently in its second season – which premiered to positive response and record-breaking viewing for the studio. Next in the lineup is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on Martin’s novels, collectively known as The Tales of Dunk and Egg. The series is currently filming and will premiere in 2025.
Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the story of Aegon’s Conquest, the beginning of House Targaryen’s centuries-long rule over the Seven Kingdoms, is also in the “very early” stages of development.
Do you remember the Sea Snakes, aka Lord Corliss, aka the Lord of the High Tides? This character’s role in House of the Dragon may be less important, but he’s great. HBO is developing a show – The Sea Snakes/Nine Voyages – that focuses on the Lords’ adventures across the seas.
Another spin-off that is confirmed to be in development is Ten Thousand Ships. It will center around Princess Warrior Nymeria, the ancestress of House Martell and the founder of Dorne. Stay tuned for more updates!
