Demi Moore and Amy Adams were paired for Variety’s Actors on Actors interview and they had great chemistry. Both of her recent films, The Substance and Nightbitch respectively, had similar themes of latent female anger. Adams said, “I love how both of our films deal with these elements of surrealism and mysticism and anger.”
Moore agreed and said that there is generally an unspoken societal pressure on women not to express their anger. “It’s not that anyone is saying we can’t be, but it’s kind of the collective consciousness of, ‘Oh, that’s not attractive,'” he added.
Apart from doing films on similar subjects, the actresses also have motherhood in common. Adams, who shares Aviana, 14, with her husband Darren Le Gallo, revealed that she is careful not to use gender-specific words when talking to her daughter. “I really had to work on being like, ‘Oh my God, you’re so nice…’ No, don’t say that. ‘You’re a good person, and I’m really proud of you.'” Instead of you being a good girl.
The Decent Proposal actress, who is mom to daughters Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 30, with ex-husband Bruce Willis, agreed. The Arrival actress shared that she was “paralyzed” by parts of her life and was inspired by watching Moore on screen, wondering what it was like to be a woman.
Adams said, “Because you were strong, and you were authoritative. You always felt like you had your own identity.” Earlier this month, during the 2024 Gotham Awards, the Ghost actress talked about the topic of aging in her life and her film The Substance.
He admitted that his relationships throughout his life changed with age and even more so as he grew up. “My relationship with (aging) is now one of much more joyful acceptance,” he said at the time.
