Airtel and Jio announced that they have participated with SpaceX to offer Starlink Satellite Service in India, welcomed the move by IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. In a tweet, the minister wrote: “Welcome to Starlink, India!”
Update: For some reason IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has removed the tweet.
Vaishnav, who is also the Railway Minister, then added to the same tweet, “remote area will be useful for railway projects.”

The minister’s tweet came a day after Airtel and Jio, when Spacex announced a partnership to bring Starlink to India with an Elon Musk Company. The partnership will include Jio and Airtel Starlink equipment selling antenna plus accessories that will enable users to reach Starlink in India.
Starlink, a service that has become increasingly popular in many parts of the world, is an internet service that users use satellite connectivity for beam high-speed broadband. Because it does not depend on land-based fiber cables, it can reach remote areas as well as offer connectivity even in adverse conditions such as storms and natural disasters.
However, SpaceX still is still waiting for formal government approval, before it could offer Starlink Service in India. But now that the minister has tweeted, it is safe to say that regulatory approval is coming soon, possibly within days.
India has generally been cautious about approving satellite -based connectivity in the country. This tightly controls the use of satellite phones. At the same time, so far Alone Mask became zero in an attempt to get regulator approval for the starlink. But with the Musk Now (informally) part of the Donald Trump administration, it is possible that his applications are being considered in a new light by the Government of India. It is probably the same factor that has also inspired the change in India’s stance on electric cars, where Elon Musk’s Tesla is one of the biggest players. India has recently changed rules on import duty which attract such cars in the country.
The partnership with Airtel and Jio, which was earlier reluctant to enter Starlinks in India, is also likely to help in the Starlink case. Jio earlier announced that it would “not only provide Starlink equipment in its retail stores, but also install a mechanism to support customer service installation and activation.”
Airtel said in its statement that “Airtel and SpaceX will offer the opportunity to connect commercial customers, communities, schools and health centers through Airtel’s retail stores, Airtel’s retail stores, in Starlink services, among many others, even in the most rural parts of India.”
This was followed by a comment from Bharti Enterprises President Sunil Bharti Mittal, given that “soon the customers would be able to take their mobiles to the farthest part of the world, with them in the sky and blue oceans.”
