NASA astronaut Sunita Williams and Buch Wilmor, who were considered an eight-day mission, were stuck on the International Space Station (ISS) for more than nine months due to unexpected technical issues. As they finally prepare to return to Earth riding on a SpaceX Dragon SpaceCraft, not before March 19, the amount they can be paid to stay in space for a long time are likely to do a thing.
Overtime on designated for astronauts
According to retired NASA astronaut Caddy Coleman, there is no special overtime salary for astronauts. Since he is a federal employee, his time in space is treated like any regular work travel on Earth. They continue to earn their regular salary, NASA has covered its food and living expenses on the ISS.
Ms. Kolman told about Washington that she gets only additional compensation.
For reference, during its 159-day mission in 2010-11, Ms. Kolman received a total of $ 636 (over Rs 55,000) in additional salary. Using the same calculation, Ms. Williams and Sri Wilmore – after spending more than 287 days in space – will receive $ 1,148 (about 1 lakh rupees) each in additional compensation.
NASA has said that astronauts are not technically “trapped”, as they are actively working on ISS.
How much Sunita Williams is likely to pay
NASA astronaut Sunita Williams and Buch Wilmor are classified under GS -15 pay grade, which is the highest level for federal employees under the General Schedule (GS) system. GS -15 government employees receive an annual base salary between $ 125,133 – $ 162,672 (about Rs 1.08 crore – Rs 1.41 crore).
For its expanded 9 -month stay on ISS, Ms. Williams and Sri Wilmore will earn a predecessor between $ 93,850 – $ 122,004 (about 81 lakh rupees – 1.05 crore).

Sunita Williams and Buch Wilmor faced several delays in their return after facing the technical problems of the spacecraft in part of NASA’s Boeing Starlineer Test flight. NASA recently approved a relief mission, and a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket successfully launched the Dragon Spacecraft successfully from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 7:03 pm on ET (IST) at 7:03 pm on Friday. Dragon docked ISS at 10 am.
