Israel strikes kill 12 medical workers at Lebanon clinic amid escalating conflict in Middle East

An Israeli strike killed 12 medical workers at a health care center in southern Lebanon, Lebanese health officials said Saturday.According to officials, the strike affected a clinic in the city of Burj Qalawiyya, leading to the deaths of doctors, paramedics and nurses working at the facility. Another attack in the city of Sawaneh killed two paramedics linked to Hezbollah and its ally Amal.Meanwhile, Israeli attacks continued in southern Lebanon on Friday. The Lebanese Health Ministry said eight people were killed in an attack in the village of Miah w Miah near the port city of Sidon.Hezbollah also launched attacks on Friday against Israeli forces in what it said was a Quds Day operation. Quds Day is an annual demonstration in support of the Palestinian cause in Iran on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.Lebanon was plunged deeper into the regional conflict last week when Hezbollah attacked Israel following attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran that killed its supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.Israel has warned Lebanon that the country will face escalating consequences if Hezbollah continues its actions. Defense Minister Israel Katz said that the attacks on infrastructure were only the beginning. Katz said, “This is just the beginning and the Lebanese government and the Lebanese state will have to pay an increasing price for the damage to Lebanese national infrastructure caused by Hezbollah terrorists.”Hezbollah chief Naim Qasim said on Friday that the group is ready for a long-term conflict with Israel. “We have prepared ourselves for a long confrontation, and God willing, they (the Israelis) will be taken by surprise on the battlefield,” Qassem said in a televised address.Lebanese President Joseph Aoun earlier this week offered direct talks with Israel. However, on Friday he said that he had not received any response.
