Apple is preparing to introduce iOS 18 worldwide and the tech giant is expected to announce it at the WWDC (Worldwide Developer Conference) 2024 that begins today. The Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to unveil several features with iOS 18. In fact, iOS 18 is expected to be much better than its previous version. The first beta version of iOS 18 is expected to be available to Apple Developer Program members soon after the keynote address. The final version of iOS 18 should be released to the general public in September.

According to a new report from MacRumors, the upcoming iOS 18 is expected to include a new security feature that will allow users to lock individual apps. This new functionality will enable users to secure built-in iPhone apps like Mail, Messages, Notes, Phone, Photos, Safari, Settings, and more with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode.

This new feature aims to enhance privacy by providing an additional layer of protection for sensitive information within apps. Users will need to authenticate with Face ID to access these locked apps, ensuring that even if the iPhone itself is unlocked, the content within certain apps will remain secure. The feature is also expected to be compatible with Touch ID and passcodes, providing flexibility for different device models and user preferences.

The report also states that for now, this feature will only come for built-in iPhone apps. It is not yet confirmed whether this feature will reach third-party apps from the App Store or not.

Currently, Apple allows specific content within an app to be locked using Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode. For example, users can lock notes in the Notes app and secure photos in the “Recently Deleted” and “Hidden” albums within the Photos app. However, iOS 18 will enhance this ability by allowing entire apps to be locked, providing broader protection for user data.

As already reported, iOS 18 is expected to be unveiled during the WWDC keynote tonight. Apple fans can watch all the action from the event via the official livestream on Apple’s website and YouTube channel. The keynote session will begin at 10:30 PM IST.
