One of the most exciting sectors in India is civil aviation. A few years ago, Indian consumers had little choice, but now with several major airlines flying and proactive government policies, Indian aviation is one of the largest in the world.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, who is attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Davos, told NDTV that India is the third largest domestic civil aviation market today and the government believes it can become number one. .

“We are looking at a growth rate of 10 per cent to 15 per cent in civil aviation and one of the priority areas for us is to create hubs,” he said.

On whether airlines ordering a record number of aircraft in India could pose a major challenge to the government in creating infrastructure, Shri Naidu said everything is already in place for the growth of the sector.

“When we talk about infrastructure, we have been building it for many years. In the last 10 years, we have grown from 74 airports to 159 airports. So airlines have to catch up now. The demand is there, the infrastructure is there.” And even those that are existing airports, we have expanded their capacity because we believe that the traffic is going to increase more in the coming days,” the Civil Aviation Minister said.

He said the government is trying to encourage aircraft manufacturers to place orders as soon as possible as the demand already exists. “We need more aircraft to meet demand with greater connectivity and at affordable rates.”

On the pace of training aviation professionals – pilots, cabin crew, etc. – which has to grow at the same pace as the sector is growing, Shri Naidu said that a good capacity of training is taking place to ensure that Orders for the aircraft come from India when there is a workforce of around 2,000 available.

"Infra is ready, airlines will have to move forward": Civil Aviation Minister in Davos

Shri Naidu said that it was a very challenging time for airlines to receive large number of bomb threat calls. He appreciated the entire civil aviation team under the Ministry of Home Affairs, especially the investigating agencies, for how they handled the situation. Worked together. As soon as possible.

“On our part, we amended the aircraft security rules and brought in a no-fly list for these criminals who are trying to carry out these types of activities. All the threats were fake calls,” he said. The process is still ongoing.

“In some instances we were able to catch the person behind it. It was believed to be a prank kind of thing. So this was a kid from Chhattisgarh who was caught in Maharashtra. And the other incident also happened from Delhi where it What happened was that he seemed to have some dispute with a friend who was traveling in the plane,” Mr Naidu said.

The five-day meeting that began on Monday in Davos is exploring ways to restart growth, harness new technologies and strengthen social and economic resilience, according to the World Economic Forum. Nearly 3,000 leaders from more than 130 countries are participating in the global meeting, including 350 government leaders.
