Indian students asked ‘how will I get a data engineering job in the US’: Tech founder says $100K H-1B visa fee made the answer frustrating

American founder Jack Wilson gets trolled after supporting Indian students.

Founder Zach Wilson, a former meta tech expert, said he felt proud to be an American after a federal court struck down a $100,000 tariff imposed by the Donald Trump administration on imports of H-1B visa holders. Wilson said the last six months had been frustrating with his Indian students asking “How do I get a data engineering job in the US?” “And my response is basically, ‘You’re not because of Trump,'” he wrote in an X post.“These visa fees were another reason why I had to go to Bengaluru and Hyderabad this year. Because if we can’t bring the brains to America, the brains will continue to create amazing things in India. And the phenomenal entrepreneurs and engineers I met in India were incredible. The world is getting balanced,” the former Netflix engineer said.Wilson said, “It’s amazing to see that America still has the checks and balances necessary to remain the land of immigrants and new ideas! Today is one of the few days in a very long time when I say I’m proud to be an American and that my government is doing something right.”

Tremendous trolling for taking side of Indians

Zach Wilson’s post was widely criticized as social media users asked him why he didn’t think about training American students. “90% of my students are American and I love that I can talk with them about the incredible opportunities there are,” Wilson said. One wrote, “How do I, an American, get my data engineering job back? Hey, you’re so nice dude OPTs don’t pay payroll taxes. They endure overwork and abuse. I hate you so much.”Wilson responded, “Welcome to the new world. The jobs will be sent to Bangalore anyway, so it’s not like they’re taking a job that would have gone to an American.”Pushing back, Wilson said that when he worked in big tech he was hired by three different hiring managers and he never faced discrimination under Indian managers.
