An Indian man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman sitting next to him on a flight to Australia.Sudhir Kumar Chauhan, 52, is accused of assaulting a female passenger on a Scoot Airlines flight from Singapore to Perth on Monday, according to Australian Federal Police. The incident reportedly happened mid-flight, leaving the woman distressed.The passenger immediately alerted the cabin crew, who responded by moving him to another seat. The airline staff monitored the accused during the remainder of the journey after notifying authorities on the ground.Police officers were waiting for the plane to land in Perth and arrested Chahuan upon arrival. He has since been charged with multiple counts of sexual intercourse without consent and indecency without consent.“Every passenger has the right to feel safe when they travel, especially when confined to a plane in close proximity to other passengers,” AFP Acting Superintendent Peter Brindle said in a statement, reporting the New York Post. He added: “Anyone who is the victim of (alleged) unwanted contact is encouraged to alert the authorities, whether it be airline staff, the AFP or airport security, as soon as it is safely possible to do so. Any act of indecency on an aircraft or at an airport is not appropriate, and any passenger breaking the law will be dealt with promptly.”The identity of the accused man was revealed by The West Australian newspaper. He is still in custody and is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Friday.
