Actor Idris Elba has said that long-running speculation about playing James Bond was never legitimate, while also saying that the 007 franchise should not be tried to “woke up”. in an interview with British GQThe 53-year-old said the character should remain rooted in escapism.
Elba emphasized that Bond was not intended to reflect reality too closely and argued against reshaping the character to suit changing tastes. He said, “Bond is so unrealistic, so the hint of reality is nice, but let’s not try to evoke it. I think you have to be pure about it: escapism. Don’t try to respond to the tastes of the world. Just be Bond.”

He also addressed the rumors linking himself to the role, saying that he never saw it as a realistic possibility. “I’ve always felt that it’s not a realistic thing. James Bond was written out for a reason. But I got to appreciate it. And, I think in realistic terms, some markets don’t go for it. Bond is big all over the world. And (audiences) won’t go for a black male, an African male, playing Bond. It’s not liked in their culture. Period,” the actor said.
Elba also stars as Duncan, aka Man-at-Arms, in director Travis Knight’s lord of the universe. Actor Nicholas Galitzine plays the lead role of Adam Glenn aka He-Man in the American action film.
The story follows Prince Adam (Galitzine), who returns to his home planet, Eternia, after 15 years. Summoned by a sword of mysterious power, Adam discovers that his world is under the control of the ruthless Skeletor, portrayed by Jared Leto.
