"hurt my feelings" – Why are Instagram users angry about this viral ‘crispy chicken’ video?

Must read

We often come across videos on social media where we are challenged to guess whether something is a hyperrealistic cake or just the object it appears to be. Many users enjoy this guessing game while the makers/bakers showcase their skills in unique ways. Recently, one such challenge left foodies enraged for an interesting reason. In an Instagram reel shared by Dayata Pal (@diyacakesit), the artist asks “chicken or cake” while cutting a crispy piece that resembles chicken. It is not just the appearance that attracts the audience, but also the distinctive sound of the crust when the knife cuts it.

Wondering what it turned out to be? Well, in the caption, the cake artist jokingly revealed, “Fun fact: my son was upset thinking this crispy fried chicken was cake. I’m really sorry (not) that he’s stuck with a cheating mom. He definitely deserves better than this.” The video has garnered over 14 million views so far. Check it out below:

In the comments, many were impressed with the artist’s skill in creating such a cake. Others were quite disappointed that it wasn’t actually chicken. Popular Indian brand Swiggy Instamart also reacted to the post, asking, “What did I do to get this?” Some have suggested that the artist used the outer layers of fried chicken pieces to cover the cake. However, she later responded to them in a video showing how she created the treat.

See how some Instagram users reacted:

“No… this “chicken” looked very juicy.”

“It looked like the best drumstick I’ve ever seen.”

“Yo, that felt so good it hurt my feelings.”

“This is probably the most realistic ‘Is this a cake?’ I’ve ever seen. I can’t even be angry. The talent is overwhelming. Applause. Just applause!”

“I’d be so angry if I bit into something so deliciously crunchy and it turned into a cake.”

“The most depressing video on the internet.”

“We’ll have to see how you made it.”

“This is chak (chicken cake).”

A few months ago, another “Chicken or Cake” video by the same artist was doing rounds on the internet. It featured a portion of tandoori chicken. Click here to read the full story.
