When you think of foxes – yes, humble makhana – you can be reminded of your evening break, remembering this roasted and crunchy superfood with a cup of tea. You can also remember Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who mentioned at a rally earlier this year that he eat Makhan for 300 days a year. Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan may also come to mind, as she has been an outspoken fan of Makhanas, calling her her snack-to snack for years.

During the annual budget this year, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitarman announced that “Makhana Board” would be established in Bihar. The Region? Well, to increase the production, processing, price joint and marketing of Makhana.

Bihar is the largest producer of these nuts in India, which contributes 80 percent of the country’s supply, yet it has fought to capitalize on the increasing global demand of this superfood.

Amidst these developments, Machan is enjoying a gap change in Indian homes in this summer. Traditionally, they were remembered as roasted snacks associated with coffee or tea.
