Earlier this year, Huawei unveiled the Pura 90 Pro and 90 Pro Max for the Chinese market. Now the company is introducing a pair of “90s” models that have largely similar hardware but will be available in the global market.
The two Pura 90s Pro models share a lot of the same hardware. The main differences between them are the screen sizes – 6.6″ for the Pura 90s Pro and 6.9″ for the Pro Max – as well as things like charging speeds and telephoto cameras.

Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max
Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max Stands out with an industry first 200MP RYYB sensor – Huawei has a long history of preferring yellow sub-pixels over green. It’s a large 1/1.28″ sensor behind an f/2.6 lens with a 4x optical zoom. It’s a fixed zoom this time without the complexity of a switchable lens like the Pura 80 Ultra last year. Huawei has enabled 20x telephoto video for real-time RAW processing. The lens offers CIPA 7.0 stabilization (7 stops) and is capable of macro shots as well.
The main camera also has a 1/1.28″ sensor, it’s configured with 50MP resolution. It’s one of the new-fashioned LOFIC sensors that offers wide dynamic range. And yes, it’s a RYYB sensor. It replaces the 80″-type sensor of last year’s Pura 1 Pro and Ultra models. Anyway, the OIS-enabled lens of the main camera has an adjustable aperture that goes from f/1.4 to f/4.0 in ten steps. Additionally, there is a 40MP ultra-wide camera (RYYB sensor, f/2.2 lens).
Huawei Pura 90s Pro It has its own 4x telephoto camera, although it is equipped with a 50MP sensor. It has an OIS-enabled f/2.1 lens with macro mode (5cm).

Huawei Pura 90s Pro
The main camera is the same as the Pro Max, with a 50MP 1/1.28″ RYYB sensor. However, it lacks the LOFIC technology. Finally, the ultra-wide camera is a more basic 12.5MP unit (RYYB sensor, f/2.2 lens).
As mentioned above, the Pro model has a 6.6″ display. It’s an LTPO panel (1-120Hz refresh rate) with a 1,256 x 2,760px resolution. It’s a flat panel protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass.
The Pro Max is a larger phone with a 6.9″ display, another flat LTPO panel with a 1,308 x 2,880px resolution (1-120Hz) and original Kunlun Glass. Both displays feature a special optical design that reduces reflections by 70%. Additionally, a diamond-like carbon coating and silicon nitride ceramic material are claimed to increase scratch resistance 16x and drop resistance 25x.

Both phones are powered by the Kirin 9030S – a slightly mysterious chip from HiSilicon that’s brand new (the entire 80s generation used the Kirin 9020), so we’ll have to test it out to learn more about it.
One major change in this generation is that the phones support 5G, which was not the case with previous Huawei phones sold globally. Also, there is now eSIM support. Other wireless connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi 7 (BE), Bluetooth 6.0 (LDAC and L2HC), and NearLink E2.0 (a Huawei-developed alternative to Bluetooth).
Both phones are configured with 12GB of RAM and come with 256GB or 512GB of storage. They run EMUI 16 instead of standard Android. The new version is based on AOSP 16.
Both phones have a 6,000mAh battery for the Chinese and global markets, however, EU regulations mean a lower capacity for units sold in the union – 5,500mAh for both phones. The Pro Max model has fast charging, 100W wired and 80W wireless, while the Pro model has 66W and 50W respectively.
As you may have noticed, Huawei took the extra step and painted the metal frame to match the color gradient of the rear panel. It gives extra pop to more colorful options like Orange Ocean.

Huawei Pura 90s Pro Colors: Guava Soda • Coconut White • Orange Soda • Mulberry Black
The phone is rated IP68 for submersion (2 meters depth) and IP69 for resistance against water jets. The Pro Max model is 230 grams heavier but 8.1 mm thin, while the Pro model weighs 213 grams and is 8.2 mm thick.
Huawei Pura 90s Pro and Pro Max will be rolled out gradually. We found them on sale in Malaysia and they should be available in Singapore soon. They don’t appear on Huawei’s European sites yet, but we do have prices – see the table below. Additionally, there will be a dedicated launch for the Middle East on July 16.
