Analysis of censored Indian releases
The film’s most shocking scene, which unfolds at the end, has also drawn attention to how it was made. A behind-the-scenes video reveals that the sequence was shot largely with practical effects rather than CGI. This is how violent scenes are filmed in films – jelly glass, fake blood and dummies are used, along with the physical motion of the car, to create the final image of Sarah’s face.
In the scene, Bear is with his friend Sarah (Megan Lawless) taking a breather from the increasingly erratic Nikki. In the revised version shown in India, Nikki suddenly appears at their meeting, and moments later, Sara is brutally beaten. Nikki then tells the shocked and horrified Bear that Sara’s death is his fault. Even in its briefest form, this scene serves as a big scare.
Avoiding NC-17: Inside the Graphic Basic Scene
In the uncensored version, Nikki appears as Bear and Sara sit in a car and have a moment to themselves. She breaks the car window with her head and repeatedly hits Sara’s face with a heavy object like a brick. She stops only when Sara’s face turns into an unrecognizable mess, part of which appears briefly in the Indian release.
barker told Dread Central that the original version was more graphic, and he had to shorten it to avoid an NC-17 rating in the US. He said, “There were about six or seven more smashes. And we were getting an NC-17 rating. And so they were like, ‘You’ve got to take out some smashes.’ And I was like, ‘I’m not throwing a single punch.’ But I did. “It still sounds like really hardcore shit.”
Jelly-Glass and Fake Blood Shatter
A behind-the-scenes video from the shooting shows how the sequence was filmed with practical effects. A unit member revealed that the ‘glass’ used in the scene was actually jelly-like to protect the actors. During the moment of Nikki breaking the window, crew members can be seen throwing materials at the bear and then covering it with fake blood.
At one point, Barker even appears pleased that he got a good shot of the envelope that Sarah is about to open. Another moment in the footage shows a crew member removing fake blood from car seats after a take. A wide shot also shows that the car was physically shaken as Nikki attacked Sara to make the scene look real.

Mixture of comedy and horror
Megan Lawless also shared a behind-the-scenes video from the shoot that shows her and Navarrete fooling around before the take. Navarrete also appears genuinely nervous as she walks toward the car. Lawless described it as his favorite day on set. hollywood reporter Navarrete had to wear a helmet and wig for the glass-breaking shot, which he said looked ridiculous.
Lawless also said that, at the moment Sara’s head broke, Navarrete was “gently” holding the back of her head while pretending to hit it with a brick. He said that a doll version of her was used for the shot showing Sara’s face at the end of the sequence.
