Casey Affleck knows how to keep a friendship! The actor takes center stage at West Park’s second annual Fall Benefit on Thursday, November 14 in New York City. Speaking to People magazine, the Good Will Hunting actor talked about the importance of his long-term friendship with Matt Damon, who was an honorary chair at the event.
Casey said, “Someone said that old friends are the leavened bread of life. The older I get, the more they mean to me.” “People you’ve known for a long time become more important as you get older and they certainly are to me,” he said.
The actor attended the event to celebrate the art. Manchester by the Sea Star Art was something he always enjoyed and believed it did a lot for society. According to Casey, art is not just for entertainment but to continue the culture. He said, “Art is the mirror we look to when we want to understand who we are and what we are doing.”
Casey and Damon have been friends for over four decades and are also friends with her older brother Ben Affleck, who is also Damon’s business partner in their production company Artists Equity. The trio have collaborated professionally on projects such as 1997’s Good Will Hunting and the recent thriller mystery, The Instigators.
The Martian actor spoke to People magazine in August about his relationship with the Affleck brothers. “We have this 43 years of shared history. We grew up together,” he said. The actor explained that they share an “underlying understanding” of each other and know how to maintain personal and professional barriers.
“In our business, there’s a whole language built around trying to protect people’s emotions because it involves people’s egos,” Damon explained. He further said that both he and Casey do not engage in diplomacy and express their views directly. The actor revealed that they have been sensitive towards each other since they were young and this is what has made their bond so strong.
