Exclusive: How Andy Navarrete’s performance changed Nikki’s passion
Kari Barker said that Obsession originally gave Nikki the deep end, before the performance of Andy Navarrete changed the plan. The decision was made after a single survival-scene take, leaving the set silent and the character’s fate redefined.

Speaking to us, the film’s producer, Kari Barker, shared that an earlier version of the script had a much darker ending planned for the character. Barker revealed, “Originally, there was an ending where his character decides to end it all, and that’s what we were going to do.”

However, the ending changed after Inde Navarrete’s performance, which left a lasting impression on the cast and crew. His co-star Michael Johnston said, “I want to make a really quick compliment about Indy.” He added, “What happened in the end was that she did such an amazing job with the role that she survived in the end.”
According to Barker, the team filmed that version only once. He recalled, “We just gave her one of those takes and it was brilliant. Everyone on the set was silent and we were like, ‘Holy!’
Navarrete, who was present during the conversation, responded with a laugh as Barker praised his work at the scene.
