Backbone One is a gaming accessory that can turn your smartphone into a gaming console

India’s gaming industry is booming. This market, valued at $3.8 billion in FY 2024, is expected to double to approximately $9.2 billion in the next five years. In this growing market, gaming accessory brand, Backbone has debuted in India with a product that makes gaming a little more accessible. The brand has started with a product called Backbone One, which can turn your smartphone into a gaming console. All you have to do is clip your phone to it, and you’re ready to play.

“Over the past few years we have seen the growth of competitive mobile gaming in India, which is why we are more than excited to introduce Backbone One in India, a device that redefines mobile gaming. Want to be a part “The gaming community is growing and empowering gamers with the best tools to enhance their experience and give them a competitive edge,” says Manit Khaira, CEO of Backbone.

The Backbone One comes in two variants in India for maximum compatibility. There is a USB-C model, which is compatible with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16, and Android devices. The product also has a Lightning port variant, which supports older generation iPhones. It also comes in a standard black design with the PlayStation Edition developed in partnership with the Sony PlayStation team.

The model with USB-C and Lightning port starts at Rs 7,769, while the premium configuration of the device will be available for Rs 12,400.

The Backbone One comes with features like triggers, thumbsticks, and a D-pad for good controls. It also comes with magnetic adapters that ensure compatibility with different phone sizes, making it user-friendly for different devices.

The controller supports a wide range of games from the App Store and Play Store, including popular titles like Call of Duty: Mobile, Genshin Impact, and Minecraft. It also allows players to stream and play their PlayStation, Xbox or PC games through apps like PlayStation Remote Play, Xbox Remote Play and Steam Link. Additionally, users can access Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to play games like Forza Horizon 5 and Starfield directly on their phones without the need for a console or PC.

Other features include a 3.5mm headphone jack, ultra-low latency connection, instant gameplay capture, and the ability to charge while playing. The device also has a collapsible design so that it is easy to carry along and play games while on the go.
