According to DEADLINE, “With filming of season 4 of The White Lotus currently underway, it became clear that the character Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” an HBO spokesperson shared.
What about the role the star was supposed to play? He added, “The role has been reimagined, rewritten, and will be recast in the coming weeks. HBO, the producers, and Mike White are saddened that they will not get the chance to work with her, but they remain avid fans of hers and hope to work with the veteran actress on another project soon.” So it looks like all hope is not lost on a collaboration, but it remains to be seen how Mike White will cast a new actor for the character, especially due to its highly demanding and meticulous casting process. It is said that his character was central to the plot of the story, which will now be rewritten.
Meanwhile, it has previously been revealed that the upcoming season will take place during the Cannes Film Festival. Other cast members in this installment include Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Failla, Ari Graynor, Marisa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, and Nadia Tereszkiewicz.
