The controversy arises from the allegations that the film distinguishes the legacy of Panduga Saina – the 19th -century folk hero from Telangana, who led the rebellion against feudal oppression during the Nizam Yuga.
In a recent press conference, members of the Mudiraj community claimed that the title character of the film, Veera Mallu (starred by Pawan Kalyan) holds a strong similarity for Panduga Saina, but depicted through a fictional and misleading story. He accused the manufacturers of diluting the historical and cultural essence of the character, warning that such a representation reduces the heritage of the hero.
