Hamnett director Chloé Zhao to direct Mission: Impossible 9 with Tom Cruise? Here’s what we know

There’s a new update to Mission: Impossible Grapevine, but it’s not one that fans are necessarily happy with. Recently, reports have emerged that the Tom Cruise-led Daredevil franchise will be back with another part, while the actor had previously said that it will end with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. However, a report from popular tabloid Deux Moi has rocked the Hollywood world once again as it has been reported that Hamnet star director Chloé Zhao is in talks with the 63-year-old for a project which is believed to be based on MI9.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, not the end for Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt? Here’s everything we know

With ‘Final’ in its name, many were embracing the fact that Tom Cruise would be ending his beloved but dangerous franchise of Mission: Impossible movies, and he claimed so. But new rumors suggest he may have changed his mind within a year of saying so. According to a report from the gossip outlet’s anonymous tip, “Chloe Zhao is in talks to write/direct. Tom scouted her, she’s worked on treatment, the script is in the works.”

For a long time, Christopher McQuarrie has been captain of the ship, steering his way through the MI world of four films with some brilliant and some lackluster receptions. With the expected change in direction, one can expect that there will be a change in the outcome as well. But all this has remained a mere rumor for some time, there has been no official confirmation or denial from any side.

So far, Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt has played his Alejandro G. The 8th installment bid a grand farewell while awaiting the release of the Iñárritu-directed Digger. Chloé Zhao, on the other hand, is dedicated to the Oscar campaign for her historical drama film Hamnet. Leading the race for many accolades, the Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal starrer has been in good enough shape to have a credible shot at a win or more. It is up for 8 awards in major categories including Best Film, Best Director (Chloe Zhao) and Best Actress (Jessie Buckley).
