Gwyneth Paltrow admits Nepo Baby privilege got her role in Spielberg’s Hook
Gwyneth Paltrow admits the privilege of being a “Napo Baby” in Hollywood landed her a role in Steven Spielberg’s ‘Hook’. The actor stars alongside Timothée Chalamet in the sports comedy-drama ‘Marty Supreme’.

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow admitted that getting one of her first film roles was a case of being Hollywood’s “Napo Baby,” sharing that the role wasn’t secured through an audition — but rather was secured during a cozy car ride with her famous godfather, director Steven Spielberg. Discussing the topic of privilege, he explained how he landed his role in Spielberg’s 1991 film, hook,
paltrow, during SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversation Earlier this month, when asked what Hook’s casting process looked like, she said, “You know, there are some perks to being a Nepo baby, who was very close to Steven and Kate.” Spielberg’s wife, actor Kate Capshaw, has long been close to Paltrow’s inner circle.
“Kate was actually my dad’s best friend. They were best friends with Kate Capshaw so I grew up with them, they’re really our family,” Paltrow highlighted. The actor then mentioned that the film proposal came as a surprise when she was going to watch the film with the group while sitting in the back seat of the car. the silence of the Lambs,
“I remember we were going, me and my father were going to see the silence of the Lambs With Kate and Steven,” the 53-year-old added.
“We were going to the movie theater and Steven was driving, I was in the back seat and he kept looking in the rearview mirror and staring at me, I was like, ‘Is there something on my face? How,'” the Marty Supreme actor gushed.
Then came the crucial question that launched her screen career. According to Paltrow, who was 18 at the time, Spielberg simply asked, “And then he said, ‘Gwennie, would you do me a favor?'”
“‘Will you play young Wendy ‘Hook’ in this movie I’m making about Peter Pan?'” fablesman (2022) questioned the director. The actor’s immediate reaction was one of disbelief, a reaction he quickly retracted.
“I said, ‘Oh, fuck off’. You know, no,” she initially recalled before quickly correcting herself: “Oh, I didn’t say that. I said, ‘Yeah, I would. I’d do that.'” Although the role was brief, this moment remains an important and lasting memory in her acting journey.
Paltrow included Marty SupremeWith Timothée Chalamet. Chalamet stars in and produces Josh Safdie’s upcoming sports comedy-drama, a fictional story about a professional ping pong player. Although the film is not a biopic, it is speculated to be inspired by the life of table tennis champion Marty Reisman.
Marty Supreme was released in the United States on December 25, 2025 and is scheduled for release in India on January 23, 2026.
