India’s food processing industry led to increased hiring of freshers in FMCG; It will increase to 32% on Nov 24 in the second half of FY24. The food processing industry, which is expected to double its size by 2025-26, will boost hiring in the FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) sector as growth is seen in the second half of 2024. According to a report by TeamLease EdTech, there has been a sharp increase in hiring intent for new hires, which has increased to 32 percent.

According to the report, the intention to hire freshers in the first half of 2024 was 27 percent.

This growth is driven by deep penetration into rural and semi-urban markets due to the rapid growth of India’s food processing industry, which is projected to double from US$ 263 billion in 2019-20 to US$ 535 billion by 2025-26. CAGR of 12.6 percent.

The report said key product segments such as dairy, RTE (ready-to-eat) foods, frozen meat and snacks are creating job roles in supply chain and market research.

Shantanu Rooj, Founder and CEO, TeamLease EdTech, said, “The increase in demand for new talent in FMCG can clearly be attributed to the intensive expansion into rural and semi-urban markets, which is driving the rapid growth of India’s food processing industry. Inspired by.”

He said that due to the company’s focus on strengthening supply chains, market research and brand management, the demand for talent is expected to be high.

It further added that FMCG companies are giving preference to newcomers with skills in market insight, retail distribution and regional consumer understanding as they expand into untapped sectors.

Bengaluru is estimated to have 41 per cent hiring intentions for the role of food engineer, while Delhi has 39 per cent hiring intentions for logistics coordinators. Additionally, the demand for supply and distribution chain positions in Hyderabad is 37 per cent, and brand management trainees are expected to be placed at 34 per cent in Bengaluru.

Each role requires a blend of technical knowledge in supply chain, inventory and logistics management, along with adaptability and strong communication skills to navigate different regional markets.

This regional hiring trend reflects the role of FMCG as a significant employment driver in India, with demand for new talent expected to continue to grow in key cities and expanding regional markets.

The survey covered 526 small, medium and large companies from 18 industries across India.
