Grey’s Anatomy cast pays tribute to Eric Dane after his death: He was a flame
The cast and creators of Grey’s Anatomy have paid touching tribute to Eric Dane. His remarkable talent and warm presence left a lasting impression on fans and colleagues in India and beyond.

Artists and producers of gray’s anatomy Tributes have been paid to actor Eric Dane following his death at the age of 53. Dane, who played Dr. Mark Sloane, popularly known as “McSteamy”, died on February 19, 2026, after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Dane appeared in 145 episodes of the long-running ABC series and became one of its most recognizable faces. Following the news of his death, many members of gray’s anatomy The family remembered him as a warm, generous presence on the set.

Actor Kim Raver, who played Dr. Teddy Altman on the show, described Dane as a source of light. “Eric was a light,” she said. “You would have seen him shine effortlessly on the set of Grey’s as well as when he was with Rebecca and the girls. With a mischievous look and perfect comedic timing, he could deliver a line that would hit you. You will be missed.”

In a joint statement, ABC and 20th Television offered their condolences, saying, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Eric Dane. His remarkable talent and unforgettable appearance on Grey’s Anatomy left a lasting impact on audiences around the world, and his courage and grace during his battle with ALS inspired many. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues, as well as the many fans whose lives have been touched by his work.”
Dane publicly disclosed his ALS diagnosis in April 2025, less than a year before his death.
At the ALS Network Champions for Cures and Care Gala last month, Ellen Pompeo, who starred with Dane for several seasons, recalled reaching out to him after learning about his disease. “As soon as I heard about his diagnosis, I texted him and said, ‘I’m here if you want to speak,'” Pompeo said. “30 seconds later my phone rang.”
Executive producer Krista Vernoff also shared memories of Dane’s return to the show in 2021. Recalling his call during the pandemic, Vernoff said he asked if she would reprise her role despite the challenges of filming at the time. “I told her the world needs happiness – and Mark and Lexi are happiness. She said, ‘Where and when?'” Dane was known for his warmth and affection on set, she said.
Dane appeared for the first time gray’s anatomy As a guest star in season two before becoming a series regular from season three. His character anchored many major storylines of the show. Series creator Shonda Rhimes previously stated that Mark Sloane was one of her favorite characters.
Dane’s final regular appearance in the series came in season nine, although he later returned for a special episode in 2021.
