An interesting incident happened recently when British singer and actress Lily Allen condemned the news of returning a dog that had eaten her and her children’s passports. She said that her story had been “deliberately distorted.”
In a statement posted on X on August 25, 2024, he elaborated on his perspective and called for an end to “truly hateful messages, including death threats.” Allen began with a quote from his Miss Me? podcast, on which he discussed giving up a pet he had originally adopted because of the incident.
Allen discussed his plans to adopt a Chihuahua mix on a recent episode of his podcast, which also gave him a chance to talk about his pup during the pandemic, which has given him a very tough time.
“He ate all three of our passports, and he had our visas,” Allen recalled of the incident. “And I can’t tell you how much money I had to spend getting everything replaced, because it was because of COVID, and so it was just a total nightmare.”
The singer lives with her husband David Harbour, while her daughters’ father, Sam Cooper, lives in England. The kids’ lack of passports meant they couldn’t see their father for months, all because of a dog that destroyed their passports.
In addition, they had rescued a puppy named Mary from a shelter in New York, who has since been returned, and “we loved her very much, but she developed severe separation anxiety and was quite unstable.”
He said that on the suggestion of the people at the rescue shelter, the puppy named Mary was also taken to a behavior specialist and a professional trainer. But, no solution proved effective.
Allen further added that he has had rescue dogs “constantly” throughout his life and has never been accused of abusing any animals; therefore, the last few days have been quite difficult for him to accept this. He ended his message by urging people to “stop acting on clickbait articles when you haven’t done your due diligence.”
While Allen has now prioritized her children and is content with her family, she revealed in 2021 that she has grown distant from her father, actor Keith Allen. In her 2018 memoir My Thoughts Exactly, she wrote that he is a “self-destructor” who “couldn’t turn his comic gifts into a proper career.”
