Google introduces digital watermark to A-admitted photos using Magic Editor
Google Photo will now add a syntid watermark to edited images using the magic editor. Its purpose is to promote transparency and it is easy for people to identify AI manipulation.

As the AI-World is holding, it leaves a very thin line between reality and artificially generated materials. This is especially true for images created using AI. To compete this, Google is watermarking AI-Creed, but now it has recently announced that it will also watermark edited images using AI. The company will use syntids, which was also seen in the imagene tool, to mark edited images with generic AI using Reimagin in the magic editor. The purpose of this step is to help people identify AI-related material quickly and easily.

The synthid technology is available to the vertex AI customers using Google’s Text-to-Imez model, imagene 3 and imagene 2, which generate high quality images in diverse artistic styles. Additionally, syntids are applied to imagefx on image output and have been integrated into our most advanced video generation model veo. Veo is currently accessible to select creators on Videofx.

It can also scan a single image, or individual frame of video to detect digital watermarking. The company states that in some cases, the editing used using remagins may be very low to label and detection – such as if you change the color of a small flower in the background of an image. For perspective released in 2024, remagin uses generic AI to modify digital photos, much like other magic editor tools designed for on-device enhancement.
