The Golden Globes 2025 kicked off awards season with several surprise wins and shocking snubs. Comedian Nikki Glaser, the ceremony’s first female host, opened the 82nd Golden Globes with a hilarious monologue featuring various celebrities and pop culture moments.

A long list of big-name presenters included Elton John, Demi Moore, Sharon Stone, Kathy Bates, Anya Taylor-Joy, Seth Rogen, Jennifer Coolidge and more. While The Brutalist and Emilia Perez won awards in multiple categories, it was the dark horses from the film and television world that shone at this year’s Golden Globes. However, the biggest humiliation came in the form of a shock at the awards ceremony.

Here is the list of the biggest award winners of the Golden Globes 2025

1. Wicked wins over Deadpool and Wolverine in the box office achievement category

Ariana Grande’s Wicked won the award for Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, beating out higher-grossing films like Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine. Both non-winning films made billions of dollars at the box office. Wicked’s win shows that awards are not based on box office performance but consider other unknown factors.

2. Jamie Foxx lost the TV stand-up category to Ali Wong

Ali Wong’s Netflix special Single Lady won best stand-up special, ahead of headliner Jamie Foxx and Tonight’s host Nikki Glaser. While Fox’s Jamie Foxx: What Happened Was… garnered a lot of buzz, Wong’s win came as a surprise. Glaser, meanwhile, handled her loss well, although she quipped about putting some money on Wong winning.

3. Angelina Jolie’s performance in Netflix’s Maria rejected

Angelina Jolie lost the Best Female Actor-Motion Picture award for I’m Still Here to Fernanda Torres. The Brazilian actress took home her first Golden Globe win against legends like Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslet, Tilda Swinton and Jolie.

4. Hans Zimmer included in the Best Original Score category

Dune: Part Two received no awards as Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross won the award for Zendaya’s Challengers instead of Hans Zimmer. This is the winner’s third overall win at the Golden Globes in the same category.

5. Emilia Perez conquers everything we imagine as light

Netflix’s Emilia Perez, who made waves after winning the Cannes Jury Prize, is triumphant over the film All We Imagine as Light, which has a score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, while its own score is 76%. The Selena Gomez-starrer won the award for Best Non-English Language Film.

6. Kieran Culkin beats Denzel Washington in the Best Supporting Actor category

In a surprise twist, Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, beating favorite Denzel Washington, who starred in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II. This is the first significant film win for Culkin, an Emmy winner for his work on Succession.

7. Ebon Moss-Bachrach lost the Best Supporting Actor TV title to Tadanobu Asano

Tadanobu Asano, who played Kashigi Yabushige in Shogun, has won his first Golden Globe in the Best Supporting Actor, TV category. She defeated The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Baraich, who won consecutive Emmy Awards.

The Golden Globes 2025 was full of surprises and shocks, which is a testament to how unpredictable this event really is. As the awards season begins, an exciting journey to the Oscars lies ahead.
