Golden Globes 2025: Shogun continues its big night, the show wins Best Series and Best Television Female Actor

With the Golden Globes Awards slowly announcing its winners, Shogun has once again proved its worth. The historical fiction series won Best Drama Series 2025 along with several other awards at the highly acclaimed event.

In addition to the series’ aforementioned wins, its actress Anna Sawai, who plays Toda Mariko, won the Best Actress award at the ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that these weren’t the only accolades that one of FX’s most interesting shows won on January 6, 2025. Hiroyuki Sanada was announced as Best Lead Actor, while the Best Supporting Actor award was given to Tadanobu Asano. Awards ceremony.

Sawai was nominated for the Best Female Actor in a Television Series-Drama category alongside Kathy Bates for Matlock, House of the Dragon star Emma D’Arcy as well as Maya Erskine for Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

Actress Keira Knightley was also nominated in the same category at the Golden Globes Awards for her role in Black Doves, with Keri Russell being nominated for the list for her role in The Diplomat.

In the Best Television Series/Drama category, Shogun was nominated alongside The Day of the Jackal, The Diplomat, Slow Horses, the Netflix Korean hit series Squid Game, as well as Mr. & Mrs. Smith. It was its writer and creator, Justin Marks, who took the stage to accept the award.

Meanwhile, Hiroyuki Sanada became the winner of the Best Male Actor in the Television Series-Drama category, which saw his name nominated among other great talents like Donald Glover, who was nominated for Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Jake Gyllenhaal for Presumed Innocent, Gary was nominated for the. Oldman for Slow Horses, Eddie Redmayne for The Day of the Jackal, and even Billy Bob Thornton for Landman.

For those who don’t know, Shogun is based on the story of an English sailor, William Adams, whose character, portrayed by Cosmo Jarvis in the series, is renamed John Blackthorne.

The series explores Blackthorn’s experience in feudal Japan and also talks about his relationship with Yoshi Toranaga, Lord of Sanada.
