Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding has been the talk of the town since the Young Sheldon spin-off was announced.
The sitcom has managed to captivate the audience with good humor and witty dialogues. With five episodes already on board, fans have reacted positively to the script and character; However, with a question for the manufacturers.
In the latest episode, the Cooper family celebrates Thanksgiving with Mary, Missy, and Meemaw, except Sheldon is in the frame.
After the show’s fifth episode, titled Thanksgiving, aired on the channel, co-creator Steve Holland answered questions and revealed the reason behind Sheldon’s absence from the scene.
In a conversation with the media portal, Holland said that the producers had planned to insert Iain Armitage’s character into the episode, but then realized that Sheldon’s presence would “hurt the story.”
When sitting down for an interview, Holland explained, “In the beginning, when we were talking about the episode, it was definitely part of the discussion – like, “Should Sheldon be a part of it?” Something like that. There are opportunities when you can bring him back, but when we were breaking (the episode), it felt like it was really going to hurt this story.

He further said, “Often, when the matriarch or matriarch passes away, the family can break apart and that is what is happening here. And as much fun as it must have been to see him, it felt like there wasn’t a world where the family didn’t get together, and Mary didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving if Sheldon was coming back from California.
The showrunner mentioned the Young Sheldon storyline, where at the end of the series, Sheldon, Georgie and Missy’s father passes away, and the family is grieving the loss of their loved one.
Also in episode 5 of Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding, viewers get to see Mary get emotional when her husband is not present with his family.
As she gets up to leave, Georgie asks her why she was emotional that day. Mary further explains that every year she would argue with her husband over his drinking habits, and now that he is not there, she misses their confrontations, and eventually she misses him.
To get their mother in a good mood and celebrate Thanksgiving with her, Georgie, Mary, and Missy visit George Sr.’s grave and enjoy the occasion.
New episodes of Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding will be released every Thursday.
