Filmmaker S Shankar is making his Telugu directorial debut with Game Changer next year. The upcoming political action thriller film stars Ram Charan in a dual role alongside Kiara Advani, Prakash Raj and others. Ahead of its release, the much-awaited Tollywood film started its advance bookings through its premiere shows in the United States.
Game Changer sells tickets worth 60 thousand US dollars in advance booking in USA
Game Changer, which is all set to hit the screens on January 10, 2025, has had a slow start of advance bookings for the USA premiere. The film, starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, has so far sold tickets worth US$60 thousand in the United States, which is significantly less than Tollywood pan-Indian star films after the pandemic.
Devara: Part 1, starring Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor, sold US$150k worth of tickets in the same time frame despite having fewer screens and shows. Salar, Pushpa 2 and Kalki 2898 AD were also far ahead.
Looking at the sales trajectory, the final advance booking of Game Changer is likely to be less than US$1 million, unless Ram Charan’s visit to the US boosts ticket sales. The Tollywood star will attend the pre-release event of Game Changer in Texas this month and will later promote the film in the US in January.
Can the game changer change the game for Ram Charan and S Shankar?
Ram Charan was last seen in Acharya in a supporting role. His last full-length role was in SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2022 worldwide. The film also co-starred Junior NTR, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgan.
S Shankar had previously directed Indian 2, the sequel to Indian (1996), which emerged as a disaster, earning only Rs 150 crore. Previously, S Shankar directed the 2018 film, 2.0, which performed well, though not as expected.
Anil Thadani has the distribution rights of Game Changer in North India
Citing industry sources, Pinkvilla had earlier reported that film distributor Anil Thadani has acquired the distribution rights of Game Changer for North Indian audiences. The acquisition was on an upfront basis of Rs 75 crore. Rights are likely to be renegotiated.
