Game Changer has a disappointing start at the Indian box office, earning Rs. Earning around Rs 60 crores on the first day. The disappointment here is in the context that this is a Telugu film, which is quite frontloaded, otherwise, this first day number would have been considered good, even great for any other language film. Furthermore, the film has a massive budget, which required nothing less than a spectacular opening – something that Game Changer failed and failed spectacularly.
There were all kinds of disappointments in the initial stages, Coastal Andhra saved its reputation to some extent due to the big fan shows early in the morning, but even here it can be termed as subpar with less than 50 per cent occupancy of the regular shows. Barely Rs. 1 on first day in Telugu states. 40 crores, a far cry from Rs. Its target should have been Rs 60-65 crore.
Big disappointment also happened in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, where director Shankar has an excellent record. However, that track record has deteriorated recently, with the underperforming Indian 2 also making some headway, but Game Changer easily earning Rs. Took lead in less than. Rs 3 crores are coming from both the states. Ten years ago, in another Shankar film, I did so much work only in Kerala, which was a much smaller initial market at that time compared to today. The pre-Pongal factor also comes into play when business is slow in Tamil Nadu, but one cannot forgive such a start.
The interesting thing is that it is the Hindi version which can be said to be the best performer with Rs. 7 crore nett on the first day, but the less said about it the better because the figures are an open joke. There is a popular Hindi saying, “Aate mein namak chalta hai” (A little salt goes well with flour) but here the salt probably outweighs the flour.
