FX’s comedy series The English Teacher, which began in September 2024, has been renewed for Season 2 after a positive response. Known for his role in the hit SICCOM Will & Grace, Brian Jordan Alwarz has played the role of a teacher named Ivan Markes in the series.
Nick Grade, president of FX Entertainment, released a statement announced to renew the show. He claimed that the series became one of the most acclaimed new shows of 2024. Grade credited the manufacturers, directors, writers, artists and crew for the creative excellence of the show and expressed enthusiasm for the new session.
The show follows Ivan (Alvarez), a gay high school teacher in Austin, Texas, and a gay high school teacher of his colleagues as they navigate their job personal, professional and political aspects of their jobs. “Ivan, a gay high school English teacher and their colleagues try to balance the demands of students and their parents,” says the official synopsis.
The first season of the comedy series was a warm welcome and even earned nomination by the Film Independent Spirit Awards and WGA. However, the series drowned in a dispute after Alvarez’s alverages were accused of sexual harassment by John Ebeling of sexual harassment.
Abelling, who worked with an alverages in the 2016 web series The Gay and Wonders Life of Kaleb Gallow, made public his allegations with a post on his Instagram Story in August last year. He later published an article in New York magazine, expanding the matter.
Later, a FX spokesperson issued a statement stating that Abeling never arrived with any concern. He refused to comment on the issue. Apart from being the face of the show, Alvaraz is also the brain behind it. He serves as a writer, producer, actor and executive producer at the show.
