French actor Nathalie Baye, best known for Catch Me If You Can, dies at 77

French actress Nathalie Baye, best known for playing Leonardo DiCaprio’s mother in Catch Me If You Can, has died at the age of 77 after battling Lewy body dementia.

French actress Nathalie Baye, widely known among global audiences for playing Leonardo DiCaprio’s mother catch Me If You CanHe died in Paris on 17 April, aged 77, after battling Lewy body dementia.

Her family confirmed the news and said that she was unwell for several months and was away from the public eye. Tributes poured in from across the film industry, with French President Emmanuel Macron remembering him as an actor whom audiences “loved, dreamed of and grew up with”.

Bay’s career spanned nearly five decades, during which she appeared in approximately 80 films in French and international cinema. A respected name in the industry, he has received 10 César Award nominations and won the award four times.

Born in Normandy on July 6, 1948, Bay initially trained as a dancer before turning to acting. He gained early recognition in François Truffaut’s 1973 film day instead of nightWhere he played the role of a script assistant. Over the years, he worked with leading directors including Jean-Luc Godard, Maurice Pialat and Claude Chabrol.
