Ahead of the 2024 US elections, presidential candidate Kamala Harris began campaigning, attending several press conferences to advocate her ideologies. Vice President Alex Cooper also appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast, where the two discussed a number of sensitive issues related to women.
On November 22, Forbes published a cover story on Cooper along with a video in which he reflected on his conversation with Harris on the podcast. Cooper acknowledged that the topics they discussed were “completely worthwhile”.
In the video, Cooper reminded the former presidential candidate’s team of reaching out to him — something he acknowledged may not happen in every election. She said, “Who knows what I will do in future elections, but for this specific election, the entire focus is on women’s bodies, and we are losing rights by the day.”
Discussing those topics on the most popular women-focused podcast and making women around the world feel that way “felt incredible” for Cooper. Her interview with the former Democratic presidential candidate was released in October during the final weeks of Harris’ campaign.
However, the interview was not well received by right-wing social media users, who reportedly accused the host of avoiding pressing issues such as Harris’s policies. The Pennsylvania-born podcaster anticipated the reaction. “Listen, I knew this was coming. I’m very aware that my audience is very fragmented,” he told Forbes.
While she understands that such criticism comes with a downside, Cooper was equally overwhelmed by the positive and encouraging responses. He added, “A lot of people were coming forward and speaking and thanking me.”
Furthermore, Cooper revealed that he often faces threats of being “canceled”, but his listeners always return to his channel. Reflecting on the now-viral interview, he said, “It was totally worth it” because it at least sparked conversation and debate – something he is “proud” to have achieved.
