On Friday, Shah Rukh Khan was declared as the recipient of the Best Actor at the 71st National Awards for ‘Jawan’. While his jubilant fans were excited to see him that he finally won his honor for the first time in his 33 -year acting journey, many otherwise thought.
A part of the audience felt that his performance in the film -led film ‘Sirf Ik Banda Khu Hai’ was not with other people like Manoj Bajpayee and Prithviraj Sukumaran in ‘Manjivitha: The goat life’. If this was not enough, the chairperson of the jury, Ashutosh Gowariker was also subjected to trolling for the same.
India today spoke to actor-Filmekar Vivek Vaswani, one of the oldest friends and colleagues of Shah Rukh in discussion about its National Award win. Saying that cinema is always subjective, no one can compare different performances in different characters.
“The only way to perform the best would be that 10 actor Richard III or King Lear plays, and you decide who was the best lier. There is no basis for comparison. There is no fairness. Talking about Gauvikar, whom he knows for a long time compared to SRK, Vaswani said, “He is a person in the film industry whose integrity I cannot, and will never be doubtful. “For me, it was never about giving Shah Rukh a film, it was about giving him his career. We worked together to work on films that could sell; only this could cause him an acting career. He was also quite smart to understand the numbers, and so he started distributing his films so quickly.
And did they get a call post announcement? He said, “This is really difficult to go on a call with him because he is very busy working. But I will always wish him all the best. And like my fans, I also think it came late, but as he says, ‘it’s ever better’.”
Shah Rukh’s ‘Jawan’ was directed by Atley and also marked actors Nayantara and Vijay Sethupathi’s Bollywood debut.
