Exclusive: Subodh Bhave explains why he doesn’t make big budget Bollywood films: ‘No interest in becoming heroine’s brother’

In his extensive film career spanning over two decades, Subodh Bhave acted in several Marathi language films. Unlike many actors, it was never his goal to get into Hindi cinema. He just wants to do meaty roles and play characters that add value to the story. So, in an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, the actor revealed why he stayed away from Bollywood. read on!

Why did Subodh Bhave stay away from Hindi films?

In an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, ace actor Subodh Bhave talks about his love for cinema and playing important characters. He made his Hindi film debut with Aiyya opposite Rani Mukherjee. But since then, his filmography has lacked a big-budget Hindi film starring B-town veteran stars. When asked the reason behind staying away from Hindi cinema, the actor shared, “Mujhe Hindi cinema mein kam karna hai ye koi mera maksad nahi tha. (It was never my aim that I want to work in Hindi cinema.)”

The Katyar Kaljat Ghusali actor further added that he only wants to do good work. So, if he is offered good roles with respect and dignity, he will do so regardless of the language. Having said this, he clarified, “I am not interested in becoming the brother of any hero or heroine.”

Further in the interview, the actor said that since he is working in regional cinema, he does not want to play small roles in Hindi films. He is being offered many important roles in Marathi cinema. Therefore, leaving all this aside and doing small roles in Hindi cinema made no sense for him. Bhave said, “I know I am a good actor and I can do better work than all of them.”

Apart from Marathi films, Subodh has also worked in Malayalam and Bengali films because he knew the character was good. When asked why he did not appear in big-budget Hindi films with B-Town biggies, the actor clarified that he did not want to play any side roles.

After Aiyya, she was seen in Hindi films like Ardhangini Ek Ardhsatya, Sajini Shinde’s Viral Video starring Radhika Madan, His Story of Itihaas and Sant Tukaram. Now he is looking forward to playing the lead role in the biopic of Baba Neeb Karori Maharaj, which will be made in Hindi.
