Superhit actor-director duo S Shankar and Kamal Haasan are gearing up for the release of the sequel of Indian on July 12. Ahead of the release, the filmmaker spoke at length about the film in an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla.

S Shankar reveals why ‘Indian 2’ took so long to be made and more

Responding to the question of why it took him so long to make Indian 2, S Shankar said, “After Indian I made a few more films and whenever I would see the newspaper, it would be full of news like bride and corruption. And then I thought of Indian 2.”

It is noteworthy that Indian was released in 1996 and now after 28 years its sequel is going to be released.

Furthermore, he also said that it took him some time to come up with the story as everything was already shown in the first installment of the Indian franchise. Furthermore, Shankar spoke in detail about the challenges he faced in writing Indian 2, especially when its first part was a blockbuster hit.

He said, “Of course, it is more challenging to develop a story for a sequel than a new subject. Everyone already knows about Indian cinema, so it is doubly challenging to present something new.”

Kamal Haasan and S Shankar are all set to return once again with the sequel of their blockbuster franchise Indian. The Kalki 2898 A.D. actor is set to play Senapathy in Indian 2, who was once a dreaded criminal.

Apart from Haasan, Rakul Preet Singh, Siddharth and Kajal Aggarwal will also be seen in lead roles in the film.

The upcoming sequel will expand the story of Senapathi, a veteran freedom fighter who takes over the reins of India to eradicate corruption in the country. The first installment ended on a great note with him promising to return if he is needed again and now it seems like the time has come.

Produced by Lyca Productions, the film will release worldwide on July 12, 2024.
