Exclusive: How a Bar Night helped Ahaan Pandey Land Sierra, reveal Mohit Suri
In a special conversation with India today, filmmaker Mohit Suri shared the story behind the casting to Ahaan Pandey in ‘Siara’. He said that an unusual test revealed the actual character and energy of the actor, which shapes the lead role of the film.

Mohit Suri’s Seara is open to an impressive start, emerging as one of the most successful debuts for a newcomer in recent times. However, it was not a direct decision to cast Ahaan Pandey in the lead. In a special conversation with India today, Suri opened about the unconventional and unexpected journey, which played the role of Ahaan, which led to his initial hesitation and how the young actor eventually won him.
Talking to us, Mohit recalled, “Ahaan was in the Raj system, and was going to do a film with him. Jab Adi (Chopra) Sir read my script, he asked if I will consider it. I always wanted to make this film with new people, so Adi Sir said, ‘I have only found a man for you.”
But Suri was not confident earlier. He shared, “When I met Ahaan, he was so good and sweet that you did not think that he was a character at all. I told Adi Sir, and he insisted on trying him.”
This was followed by an unusual examination with “a couple of formal dinner and beer”. Mohit continued, “But he was still not a character. I felt that he was catching something back. So I told him,” Stop calling me, just call me by my name. Take me to your world. “
That night, things changed, Suri said. He further explained, “We went to a nightclub, and by the end of the night, he was literally sitting on the bar – not a chair – and when I realized, this is my boy. This is the energy I needed.”
Suri admitted that despite Ahaan’s attraction, some still felt missing during the early stages of his conversation. It was not until the pressure was closed that things took a stunning turn.
Remembering the moment, who changed everything, he shared, “At one point, we also told him that he was not doing the film. The moment he felt that the audition was over, he let his guard go down – and when he came through his real self. I finally saw the spark that I started looking at. When I started shaping the character – I wrote as I wrote as I wrote,”
Ahaan Pandey and Anit Padda starring ‘Siara’, are currently running in theaters. The film has been declared equally a hit by audience and critics.
