Iran’s supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei claimed victory over the US and Israel in a written message on Friday for the Persian New Year of Nowruz. He said, “For the moment, because of the special unity formed among you and our compatriots – despite all differences in religious, intellectual, cultural and political origins – the enemy has been defeated.”He further said that the US and Israeli attacks were based on the illusion that they could overthrow the government by assassinating top leaders, the AP reported. He claimed that the attacks in Türkiye and Oman are part of the “Zionist enemy’s plan” to create division between regional countries.Khamenei said, “We share with neighboring countries sects, interests and confrontation against global egoistic forces.”He praised the Iranians for “creating a nationwide defensive front and strongholds in cities, neighborhoods and mosques, delivering such a shocking blow that the enemy became mired in contradictions and irrational statements.”Mojtaba has yet to appear in public after being named as successor to his father Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US-Israeli airstrike at the start of the war.Earlier in the day, Iran released a video of Khamenei teaching religious studies to a group of students.More than 1,300 people have been killed in Iran since the conflict began. According to official estimates, Israeli air strikes in Lebanon killed more than 1,000 people and displaced more than one million.
