When Emraan Hashmi seemed everywhere on screen, with a film after a film, one came to a break, one that fans saw, but did not fully understand. Now, the actor has talked about what happened behind that break. In a clear chat on humans of Bombay’s YouTube channel, Imran reflected on one of the most difficult chapters of his life: his son Ayan’s cancer diagnosis.
“It was an chaotic time in all our lives,” Imran remembered. At that time, Ayan was only three. “There were no particular symptoms, and one day you find out that your child has come to know of cancer. It was an ongoing fight; thankfully my family and friends were a great support system, especially my wife.” This was followed by a long battle – one meant that Imran had to catch his job. He did not think about it twice. Movies could wait. The family came first.
While Imran was drawn in different directions between being a father, a husband and sometimes returning to the film sets, it was his wife Parveen Shahani, who organized the fort at home. “My wife was a very big support system, even when she was working with her own belongings. I had to come back to films, and my wife was there alone with her. The way she handled it, she is very strong, and proper credit for her relationship and bonds is strong.”
But it was not just the strength of his wife who took him – it was also Ayan. Despite undergoing chemotherapy, Imran said that his son never allowed his days to define. “He will take his treatment and play back within minutes,” he shared. “Children are made separately. They do not do as we do.”
Turning back, Imran admitted that by removing the steps, his pace in the industry could slow down. But he also knows that he will not change one thing. Now, years later, Imran is coming back to the headlines. His upcoming film, ground zero, sees him in the role of a BSF officer, Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey. The film has been slated to release on 25 April 2025. Emraan Hashmi’s notable Hindi films include Jannat, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Raaz, The Dirty Picture and others.
