Shondaland released an exclusive interview with season four leads of Bridgerton, Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha, where they revealed more about their characters’ storylines and more. When asked what fans can expect from the third season of the regency romance-drama, Thompson teased it as a fairy tale mixed with reality. Meanwhile, Ha described it as an “emotional tug-of-war” between their hearts and society’s desires – Thompson liked this answer more than his own.
The Korean-born Australian actress will play Sophie Beck, the underage and potential girlfriend of Thompson’s Benedict Bridgerton. After unknowingly falling madly in love, the couple must face social challenges due to their class differences.
Following this, he teased his characters’ storyline for the next season. Ha described Sophie’s journey as “prismatic” because she would emerge on the other side of the prism like a rainbow – happier and full of love. Thompson revealed that Benedict would overcome his restlessness and delve deeper into his commitment issues.
He is “a person with many interests”, but sometimes this makes him feel lost. The actor said of his character, “Clearly there’s something about him that he’s not very comfortable with.” “He’s anxious about the idea of doing something and I think that’s partly been a struggle for him this season,” Thompson said.
According to the official synopsis, “The fourth season of ‘Bridgerton’ focuses on bohemian second son Benedict. Despite both his older and younger brothers being happily married, Benedict is not ready to settle down – until he meets an attractive woman in silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.
So, Benedict’s transformation from love and resentment towards marriage to longing for it by the end of the season will be quite an exciting spectacle. Sophie will be a new character introduced in the next season who has already garnered intrigue.
During the interview, Ha revealed that she received a warm welcome from the existing Bridgerton family. “I don’t think there are enough words in the dictionary to describe what it feels like to be included in a family,” he said. But she’s grateful that everyone has welcomed her with open arms and for the “lovely experience” she’s had so far.
