According to Industry Tracker SacnilkThe political drama earned only Rs 2.35 crore (net) in India on its release day.
The film’s total Hindi occupancy was 19.26 percent, with the highest viewership during the night show. Emergency, which was released along with Azaad starring Ajay Devgan’s nephew Aman Devgan and Raveena Tandon’s daughter Rasha Thadani, had around 2,500 shows across India.
The initial figures of Emergency are better than Kangana’s previous releases. His 2023 film Tejas earned Rs 1.20 crore, and Dhaakad (2022) collected Rs 55 lakh on its opening day. Aaptakal is Kangana’s solo directorial debut. However, he later said that directing the film was a “wrong decision”. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade and Mahima Chaudhary in lead roles. The response to the film has been mixed.
Sana Farzeen of India Today gave the film a 2.5-star rating. Part of their review reads: “The pace tests your patience as there are times when you want to know more. Unless you are a GK enthusiast, you will find it difficult to Google what is happening on the screen.” Will spend more time in. The songs are unnecessarily distracting, and some of them are even portrayed as dramatic music, which makes it unintentionally funny, on the other hand, the violence is gory and feels like Kangana Close -enjoy up Because the faces keep zooming on the screen.”
However, the film received a positive response from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who called the Emergency an “important document of a time in Indian history”. He also praised Kangana for her portrayal of Indira Gandhi.
