Eid al-Daha reminds Allah of the unwavering belief and obedience of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham). According to Islamic tradition, Ibrahim was ordered by God to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ismail) as a test of faith. As he prepared to fulfill the order, God intervened and provided a Ram to sacrifice instead.

Eid al-Daha also coincides with the annual Haj pilgrimage for Mecca, one of the five pillars of Islam.
