In a recent interview, Dulquer Salmaan admitted that criticism affects him.

Dulquer Salmaan, one of the few young actors who has achieved fame on a pan-India level through great script choices and consistently impressive performances, is now gearing up for the release of his next big film ‘Kantha’. Despite his widespread praise, the actor revealed during promotions that a section of the audience still believes that he cannot act.

in conversation with Gulte ProWhen asked about his biggest fear, he said, “My character’s name is Naditu Chakraborty. I don’t believe that I am a great actor. There is always a percentage of the audience who keeps telling me that I can’t act. There will be some criticism which I keep reading. So in my mind, am I no good? This fear persists.”

He said that such doubts motivate him to work harder and take on more challenging roles. He said, “So I work harder to perform better, choose more challenging things. Playing someone who is known as a phenomenal actor, can I pull it off? No one should watch a movie and feel like someone else should have done it.”

Meanwhile, ‘Kantha’ is stuck in legal trouble after B Thiagarajan, grandson of famous actor-composer Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, filed a case in a Chennai court seeking to stop its release. According to him, the film wrongly portrays Bhagwat as a “man of loose morals”, calling the portrayal false, derogatory and damaging to the late icon’s legacy.

‘Kantha’, directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, is Dulquer’s much-awaited period drama, co-starring Samuthirakani, Bhagyashree Borse and Rana Daggubati. The recently released trailer offers a gripping glimpse of the intense emotional and creative power struggle between an actor and his mentor.

Here is the trailer:

Produced by Rana Daggubati, Dulquer Salmaan, Prashant Potluri and Jom Varghese under Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films, ‘Kantha’ is set to release on screens in Telugu and Tamil on November 14.
