Still from dragon.
Pradeep Ranganathan’s dragon hit theaters on 21 February.

What happens when you uproot the life of a person already struggling? How do you remove it? Does it realize your mistake or does it push you into the depth of depression? Director Ashwath Marimuthu’s ‘Dragon’ is a film that provides definite answers to these questions.

D Ragavan (Pradeep Ranganathan), a radical ‘Good Boy’, is a gold medalist at the school. He accepts a girl after being awarded a gold medal. However, she rejects her, stating that she sometimes likes ‘bad boys’ who are uncontrolled and roam with school Gathu (swag). Cut on his college days, de ragwan becomes a dragon due to rejection and 48 standing outstanding. What he earned in college was the love of Karthi (Anupama Parmeswaran).

Six years after their relationship, Kerathi realizes that ragavan is a failure. She breaks down with her, stating that she has received a proposal to marry a smart and successful person who earns more than Rs 1 lakh in a month. This breakup changes the life of the ragavan. Initially, it is consumed by hatred for the key, it takes him down from dangerous paths.

Prior to the release of the dragon, there was a frequent nonsense – especially after the trailer release – that it was a copy of Don 2 of Shivacartian. While the two stories share some similarities, they are different in their own way. Director Ashwath Marimuthu’s dragon begins with the school life of Ragavan and moves towards his college life, where Principal Meelvanan (Masskin) has a problem with his attitude. But he is not a difficult principal who believes in punishment. He knows the importance of education in someone’s life and gives his students a chance to rectify their mistakes. However, how many mistakes will a person feel his bad ways? This is about the dragon.

The first half of the dragon is like any other college film. We are introduced to a group of students who are doubled as a Rafian, with Ragavan being one of them, surprised by the results. His evil image is so depth that he hardly thinks about the results of his actions. It is his love life or the status of his innocent parents or his non-existent work, the ragavan does not care. That grunt depends on shortcuts rather than working.

While the film gets a rocky start, it comes together in the second half, which packs more twists and turns. It is in the second half that the talent of director Ashwath Marimuthu actually shows. It is a matter of ragavan or its realization and the way the film survives from the end of Clich, where the hero wins despite all his mistakes, some interesting moments of talent shine.

The love track of the ragavan and the kirthi is a bit problematic because the film almost takes it to him to be honest and leave it. Although the later part of the story has a redemption for this arc, it could be dealt with in a more sophisticated manner. Comedy works in the first half, here and there. Whatever knots revealed the East-Astral, they stop properly by the end of the film.

Pradeep Ranganathan’s performance in the form of Raghavan has been cut off with a cloth similar to his performance in love today. Funny stretch and exaggerated reactions are pleasant, but emotional bits require a more fine approach. Anupama Parmeswaran as Kirti is perfect in her role, especially in the scene where she cries after seeing her ex -boyfriend. Kayedu Lohar, who plays the role of Pallavi, (fiancé of the ragavan), is suitable in his role as a doting girlfriend, who has a checklist for a world man.

VJ Sidhu and Harsha Khan, friends of Ragavan, get emotional roles in the dragon. Music director Leon James has a huge plus for a film like music and background music dragon. Amazing cameo was found in excited and correct way. Nichet BomidD’s colorful cinematography and editor Pradeep E Ragava helped in uplift the quality of the dragon.

Dragon is a satisfactory watch with minor shortcomings. Despite convenient writing, the screenplay continues the story with some interesting twists and turns.

3 out of 5 stars for dragon.
