Donut shortage reported at Dunkin’ stores in US, internet reacts

Customers visiting Dunkin’ locations in Nebraska and New Mexico in the US are facing a strange situation. Dunkin’, which was known as Dunkin’ Donuts until 2018, is unable to provide donuts, its signature offering, to customers and no one really knows why, according to a report. Independent.

Stores in Omaha, Lincoln and Grand Island were forced to post signs on their doors and drive-thru kiosks informing customers that the dessert was unavailable “due to a manufacturing error.” When asked what exactly the “manufacturing error” was, a manager at the West Omaha Dunkin’ location said she could not provide any further information, citing orders from company headquarters. However, the manager confirmed that the donut shortage was a national problem.

This isn’t the first time Dunkin’ has faced supply issues; A similar donut shortage occurred in 2021. However, this time, the shortage extends beyond Nebraska and New Mexico, with reports from other states also experiencing empty donut displays.

Internet reacts

As news of the mysterious donut shortage went viral, social media users expressed surprise that Dunkin’ didn’t stock the sugary snack in stores, while others came up with conspiracy theories.

One user said, “Wait, they don’t make donuts in stores anymore? That used to be their big selling point,” while another said: “Looks like it’s time to make donuts once again.”

A third commented: “This is not a “recall”. This is a “no product has been brought to market, so we can technically do a withdrawal, not a formal recall” level recall. I’d be paying good money.” I’d bet there was something serious wrong with a lot of the flour shipped to the affected stores.”

Notably, Dunkin’ is one of the largest coffee and donut chains in the world with over 13,200 restaurants. Founded in Massachusetts in 1950, the company was purchased for $11.3 billion in 2020 by Atlanta private equity firm Inspire Brands, which also owns Arby’s and Buffalo Wild Wings.
