Donald Trump: ‘They’d better behave’: Trump says Iran wants deal amid latest attacks

US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Iran on Wednesday, saying Tehran “had better behave” if it wanted to restart talks with Washington. In an interview, Trump claimed that Iran wanted to meet and was interested in reaching a deal with Washington.“We’ll find out if we compromise with them,” he said, “they’ll behave better.”It came as the US military stepped up its attacks on Iran, hitting targets further north, while the US military also fired on a ship it accused of attempting to breach the Islamic Republic’s naval blockade.US Central Command said it had completed a new series of military strikes targeting Iranian command centers, air defense systems, missile and drone capabilities and coastal surveillance facilities. In a statement, Centcom said the strike ended at 9pm ET on July 15 (Wednesday). The operation used precision-guided munitions against multiple targets, including Bandar Abbas, an important Iranian port city.“U.S. forces struck Iranian command centers, air defense sites, missile and drone capabilities, and coastal surveillance facilities to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten innocent sailors and crew of commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM used precision munitions to hit targets at multiple locations, including Bandar Abbas,” the statement said.CENTCOM also said that earlier in the day, US forces conducted a separate 90-minute operation targeting Iranian coastal defense and cruise missile sites on Greater Tunb Island.“This morning, U.S. forces struck coastal defense and cruise missile sites on Greater Tunb Island during a 90-minute wave,” the statement said.Meanwhile, Iranian officials said a missile strike near a cancer hospital in the southwestern city of Ahvaz came hours after CENTCOM announced a second wave of strikes targeting Iranian military capabilities linked to threats against maritime transit in the Strait of Hormuz.Hossein Karmanpour, head of the public relations and information center of Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said the attack occurred near Boghayi Hospital 2, which treats cancer patients. In a post onIranian state media outlet Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) also reported damage to an industrial facility in Qeshm, located in the Hormozgan Governorate.According to IRIB, citing a statement from the Hormozgan Governorate, “Following an enemy attack on part of the Souza fish powder factory in Qeshm, the factory suffered limited damage. Due to the evacuation, no injuries are reported at this time.”The development came as CENTCOM announced that the US military had launched a second wave of strikes against Iran, saying the operation targeted Iranian military capabilities allegedly used to threaten ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
