Former US President Donald Trump has made some big claims about Google. In a recent interview with Fox News, Trump gave a stern warning to Google, saying that if Google does not act responsibly, it may face a shutdown. Trump’s remarks come amid ongoing investigations into major tech companies and their influence on politics and public opinion.

Trump began his remarks by recalling a conversation he had with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. “Mark Zuckerberg called me several times,” Trump said. “He called me after the event and said that was really amazing, very brave. He actually announced that he would not support the Democrats because he respected the work I did that day. To me, that was a normal reaction.”

According to Trump, Zuckerberg also apologized for his past actions, admitted mistakes and promised to correct them. “He said he made a mistake, etc., the mistake is being corrected,” Trump said.

However, Trump pointed out that no such effort was made by Google. He highlighted the broad influence of media and technology, emphasizing the importance of platforms like Fox News and the role of digital media in shaping public perception. “Your show, you see it on Fox, but you see it really everywhere,” Trump said. “Little beautiful cellphones everywhere. You have a product. You have a great product, you have a great brand.”

Turning his attention to Google, Trump criticized the company’s actions. “Google has been very bad, they’ve been very irresponsible,” he asserted. Trump expressed confidence that Congress could take strong action against Google if it doesn’t change its ways. “I think Google is close to being shut down because I don’t think Congress will do that, I really don’t think so. Google has to be careful.”

Trump’s comments come at a time when tech companies are under growing pressure from both lawmakers and the public to address issues such as misinformation, data privacy, and political bias. While it remains to be seen what specific action, if any, will be taken against Google, Trump’s remarks underscore the ongoing tension between tech giants and political figures.

Trump’s warning to Google reflects broader concerns about the power and responsibility of major tech companies. His conversation with Zuckerberg highlights a willingness among some tech leaders to admit mistakes and make amends, but the lack of a similar response from Google reflects a continuing division. Whether Congress will act on Trump’s prediction is uncertain, but the pressure on tech companies to navigate these challenges responsibly is undoubtedly growing.
