Doesn’t the VP have his own login? Strange detail of JD Vance-Jared Kushner photo raises concern

A detail of J.D. Vance’s photo raised security concerns.

Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani shared a photo of Vice President JD Vance with Jared Kushner. “Live from Lucerne, work continues with @VP and @jaredkushner,” the post read. Vance and Kushner were both looking at something on a laptop, which looked like Vance was using it. But keen-eyed social media users quickly zoomed in on one of the cards inserted in the laptop and asked why the card had a woman’s picture on it.The card looked like a typical access card used by US defense personnel but the picture on it was clearly that of a woman.Journalist Caroline Orr Bueno wrote, “I would love to know the intended symbolism of Qatar’s Prime Minister posting a photo of JD Vance logging into a laptop using someone else’s CAC card,” and suggested, “100% a message is being sent between the lines.”Retired US intelligence officer Travis Akers said the picture reflected pure incompetence at every turn. Akers wrote, “This photo was published of the Prime Minister of Qatar, Vice President JD Vance, and Jared Kushner. What’s the problem? Giving a foreign leader visual access to a USG laptop, while using someone else’s CAC to log in. Pure incompetence at every turn.”Many social media users pointed out that more than the card, the Qatari PM’s appearance with JD Vance’s laptop in full view was more worrying. Others claimed that the Vice President was probably not using his laptop and simply needed a laptop to look at something, and therefore there was no violation in using someone else’s card or allowing the Qatari PM to look at it.
