plot

Dispatches follows Joey Bag (Manoj Bajpayee), a crime journalist who works for a media company called Dispatches. Joey is investigating a murder linked to a drug cartel with the intention of exposing this operation. As he digs deeper, he discovers a bigger and more dangerous story, the infamous Rs 8000 crore 2G scam. Despite numerous warnings, Joey presses ahead with his investigation. Along with his professional duties, Joy leads a complicated personal life, including his marriage with Shweta (Shahana Goswami) and an extramarital affair with his media colleague Prerna (Archita Agarwal).

Will Joy be able to expose the 2G scam or is this scam so deadly that it will destroy them completely? Watch the dispatch to know.

What works for dispatch

Dispatches is known for its aspirational and ambitious storytelling. It shines in its portrayal of an ordinary man like Joey fighting a powerful system. The film reflects the spirit of fearless journalism and highlights how common individuals can challenge high-level corruption. Its purpose is to show that truth can withstand even the most dangerous obstacles. For aspiring journalists, the film is an inspiring message to stay true to their principles, no matter what.

What doesn’t work for Dispatch

Despite its good intentions, Dispatch struggles with pace and flow. The story often feels sloppy and uneven. The beginning fails to grab the audience’s attention, making it difficult to stay engaged. The thrill that a high level investigation should bring is absent. Additionally, explicit scenes, although meant to add depth to Joey’s character, often break the flow. They feel unnecessary and don’t contribute much to the main plot. The 150 minute film is too long. A tighter runtime of around 120 minutes would have made it more impressive. If these issues weren’t there, Dispatch could have been a better watch.

Manoj Bajpayee has given a strong performance as Joy Bag. Her portrayal of a determined, fearless journalist who refuses to back down resonates well. Bajpayee brings depth to his character, although the story sometimes fails to match his performance. Shahana Goswami has played the character of Joy’s wife Shweta very well. His part is very strong. Archita Agarwal is full of confidence as Prerna. The supporting cast performs well but doesn’t leave any lasting impact.

final decision on dispatch

Dispatches is an ambitious film that doesn’t live up to its potential. The film deals with an interesting subject of the 2G scam and depicts a journalist’s search for the truth. However, the lack of a coherent story and the film’s sluggish pace diminishes its impact. The explicit content seems out of place and disrupts the flow of the film instead of improving it. The film’s poor execution and inability to generate suspense makes Dispatch another average watch.

Dispatch will be available to stream on ZEE5 from December 13, 2024.
